Peanut butter and jelly…the cure for what ails you.

Today started sometime yesterday.  Call has a way of doing that.  Yesterday was a busy day delivering babies.  The kind of day where you run from one room, still wearing the miscellaneous fluids of that delivery, to the next room so you make it in time to catch the baby making his or her entrance into the world.  Sure makes the day go by FAST!  The problem is, once the workday was done, the call day begun!  Overnight I was a family doc – taking care of OB, geriatric, and pediatric patients.  Some call nights the ER can be exhausting – despite my best efforts to bribe them to let me sleep.  So after a quick nap, I was back up rounding on the post-partum mommies prior to clinic this morning.  There was time for quick coffee, and I’m SO THANKFUL I took that time.  Because the clinic I was in this morning, saw 25 patients in 3.5 hours!  Talk about roller-skates.  I promised the nurse that I would never complain about how busy my clinic was anymore…but we know that MAY have not been the truth.  I meant it at the time, though.  I have to say, it was AMAZING!  I keep getting this reminder that I really do love OB.  Except, I can’t figure out how to survive on coffee and no sleep.  So the afternoon was spent post-call.  Lucky me, number 1 was in school and 2 and 3 still have nap-time.  I need that nap today, because “I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles”1.  There are a lot of miracles scheduled for tomorrow morning.

  • One of the miracles of life is that women always remember who delivered their baby…
